Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has recently carried out meetings attended by over 700 members of the public to discuss the airport’s potential third runway, proposed by Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The meetings consisted of four separate forum sessions which the EIA ran from August 2012 to April of this year. The sessions saw the discussion of the impact the potential new runway could have and what measures would need to be taken to ensure air quality and marine conservation.

The government’s environmental protection department has carried out its own review of the potential runway, known as 3RS, by processing an environmental audit.

The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) has said: “AA has been working closely with the team of international and local experts to carefully study the potential impact of 3RS on 12 specific environmental aspects. The study findings and possible impacts, together with the proposed mitigation measures, are clearly stated in the report.”
