UPS is set to invest $17.5million in expanding its delivery hub situation in Menifee, California. The expansion is due to provide handling of increased shipping volumes, with it doubling in space and due to open in September of this year. The facility will be supported by advanced technologies and conveyer systems to enable expedited packaging processes, in addition to a bigger UPS Customer Centre and space for vehicle parking.

The expanded hub will be able to process between 4,000 and 10,000 pieces an hour, with the interior space being designed to support high volumes around peak times of the year, such as Christmas. Innovative and advanced technologies are to be installed which can scan, weigh and measure packages, whilst also attaching labels, accelerating processing and sorting efficiency.

Covering nearly 50,000 square feet, the new space will include space for up to 108 delivery trucks, in addition to 10 tractor-trailer doors. Delivery routes are to be transferred from the local Riverside and San Bernardino facilities so its customers can receive more highly efficient services, as well as the company being in the position to grow.

Noel Massie, President of the Southern California District, has commented: “We’re ready with more capacity to serve customers’ eastward growth in Southern California’s Inland Empire. The growth of warehouse and distribution operations, as well as residential construction in the region, has necessitated the need to expand our facilities and operations.”
