UPS has announced it plans to expand upon two of its Houston based distribution centres. The company’s Mykawa and Conroe facilities will be expected to increase its delivery abilities in the attempt to address customer needs, especially during peak holiday seasons.

Craig Wiltz, President of the Red River District, has said: “Demand for UPS services in the Houston area continues to increase. Expanding the distribution capabilities of these buildings is one way that we are continuously keeping pace with the growth of our customers’ businesses.”

The facility situated in Mykawa is due to under modifications so that it is capable of dispatching over 40% more delivery vehicles as a result of the installation of an infrastructure which can facilitate the loading and unloading of packages. The Conroe facility will also under go similar modifications so it is able to dispatch over 40% more delivery vehicles.

Both buildings will be installed with mobile delivery centres to temporarily increase the sorting and dispatch capacity. Wiltz also explained: “These “pop-up” delivery centres are a clever capacity expansion solution and are constructed in a matter of weeks. They provide UPS [the] flexibility to temporarily expand delivery operations to address the holiday volume surge.”

Modifications to the two buildings are expected to be finished in time for the Christmas holiday period, with the anticipation of hiring more than 100 temporary employees.
