DPD Germany reduces energy with LED lighting system

DPD Germany has recently announced that it will be converting the lighting of 33 of its depots to use energy efficient LED systems. The parcel delivery company has said the investment is to cost them 800,000 Euros, and will see its carbon dioxide emissions reduce by approximately 1,700 tonnes per year.

With installation beginning in November of last year, the introduction of the new lighting system is said to improve working conditions at the selected depots. Other benefits include using less energy in production and fewer toxic substances being disposed due to unconventional fluorescent lighting. DPD’s remaining 44 depots are to have the LED systems installed at a later date.

DPD Germany’s manager, Gerd Seber, has said: “The conversion to LED technology will lead directly to a significant reduction in the CO2 emissions produced by the individual locations. By making the switch, DPD will save not just energy but will also have to offset fewer harmful emissions in order to achieve carbon-neutral parcel shipping.”
