Liege Airport has reported its cargo tonnage has grown year on year by an impressive 13% during the first half of the year. The results come during a time the company uses a freighter focused strategy.

The airport has said its traffic has increased in regards to all major lanes to Asia, the Americas and Africa, however more specifically, increase has been seen in regards to Turkey, where cargo grew by a staggering 50% during the first six months of 2015.

The airport has said: “Reasons for this are the opening of additional scheduled freighter flights to/from Istanbul, Mexico, Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago and New York. Besides being connected to all continents and having a great trucking network all over Europe the main triggers for such growth figures are the tailored services for key product groups: live animals, perishables, pharmaceuticals…and oversized project cargo.”

Long term airline customers are showing excellent growth of volumes, in addition to those that joined over the past few years, such as Qatar Airways and Saudi Airlines Cargo.
