Air freight rates rise, but are not expected to match last year

Air freight rates continued to grow in September, but prices still don’t match last year’s levels, according to the latest data from Drewry Sea & Air Shipper Insight.

The average rate for September—$3.22 (USD) per kilo—is the highest recorded since January, up from $3.06 in August and $2.86 in June, when it was at its lowest.

All signs point to continued improvement in October and November, but Drewry does not expect growth to reach the heights of last year, when rates stood at $3.76 per kilo in September and peaked at $3.92 in November.
