Understanding the prime responsibilities of freight forwarders
Job of freight forwarders
Freight forwarders are third party brokers working with different logistic companies. Their primary job is to calculate freight rates in different parts of the world and send shipments through various asset based courier companies, among other tasks. They also have to keep a track of each and every shipment from its pick up point to its delivery destination.
The exact definition of freight forwarder is one who is responsible for transferring the freight from one location to another location.
Additional responsibilities
Apart from the above mentioned tasks, freight forwarders have many other responsibilities. They have to find out, hire and connect different shippers to various transportation providers..
Freight forwarding has become a time-sensitive business as most companies have cut down on time and money spent on warehousing of goods. Hence, freight forwarders now have to look after multiple tasks ranging from contacting shippers, loading and unloading shipments and making arrangements for their temporary storage.
Some freight forwarders specialise in a particular mode of transportation and work in tandem with other freight shipping companies. Some freight forwarders work only with air freight companies while some work only for ocean freight.
