FedEx makes effort to help the environment
The new facilities can be found at O’Hare airport, with the building boasting a 175,000 square foot vegetated roof – which is big enough to be spotted by passing aircraft.
There are a number of environmental benefits associated with a ‘green roof’ such as this one. Energy costs and air pollution can be significantly reduced by the construction, as well as it benefitting from an increased lifespan.
In addition to the ‘green’ properties of installing a roof like this, the noise of the airport will also be reduced for those inside the centre.
Vice president of properties and facilities at the courier, Don Colvin, said:
“The cooperative effort between FedEx and the Chicago Department of Aviation’s O’Hare Modernisation Program is a prime example of how to immediately reduce the environmental impact of airports and create value for business and for the community.”
FedEx, as a leading international courier, has had to make these changes in order to streamline its network and ensure its practices do not have too much of a negative impact on the environment.
