UPS prepares for Christmas rush by taking on more staff
UPS has announced that it could employ up to 55,000 additional workers in the build up to Christmas as they start to notice a raised level in the number of deliveries they are expected to make.
With more people doing their Christmas shopping online these days, this means that courier companies are busier than ever before. This year, UPS predicts that about 120million packages will have to be delivered in the week leading up to Christmas. That would make for a six per cent rise in volume compared to last December.
A spokesman for UPS, Dan McMackin, said:
“It looks like a great peak season for us. On peak day, which is Thursday, December 22, we’re expecting close to 26 million packages.”
Despite this remarkable admission, the 25million mark could be reached in five of the 10 days before Christmas.
