Cycle couriers employed by UPS to increase efficiency

By using this method of delivery, the courier could also save on fuel costs and ensure employees have a healthier option with which they can carry out their roles at the company.

James Brusak, a UPS manager in the Desert Mountain District of the United States, explained how cycle couriers were used in this region to make deliveries.

He said that this made sense in condensed areas where a higher volume of deliveries had to be made. As this delivery method was already deployed in other parts of the country, training was available and guidelines set out.

The cycle courier role proved quite popular with UPS staff who would travel in trucks until they reached certain districts. They would then use the bicycle to make deliveries, with a special trailer in tow. This contained 20-25 parcels at any one time and helped the company to reduce costs, while proving an effective means of delivery.
