Christmas proved a challenge for parcel delivery in the UK (Part 2)
Taking the example of Yodel, that takes care of the shipping requirements of over 200 retailers; they found that the build-up to this Christmas was even busier than ever.
The business was formed last year and involved the acquisition of DHL Express in the UK by Home Delivery Network. As the company is still integrating the two separate networks, it is expecting its national hubs to be able to cope with all the demand put on its delivery services.
With 500,000 packages that have to be delivered per day, at non-peak times, this is already a challenge for the organisation. However, it is one that Yodel is confident of meeting.
Retailer of luxury Christmas hampers, Fortnum & Mason admitted that the increase in online orders by 300 per cent had caused a number of issues this Christmas in processing the purchases in time. This is something that international courier providers will be adapting to as well, so they are certainly ready for next year.
