TNT Express road fleet gets huge overhaul
The latter of these changes will require approval by the government if the parcel delivery firm is to extend the capacity of its trailers by two meters longer than the current limit of 18.75 metres.
With regards to the tractor units, 22 out of the 107 in the TNT Express fleet has already been replaced as the company aims to meet the new environmental standards which are to be introduced during 2012.
Fuel consumption is an issue which has already been addressed by TNT Express as it has introduced 100 new trailers with better aerodynamics which will increase the efficiency of the TNT network.
Cutting carbon emissions for the TNT Express trucks was another goal and 190 new road vehicles are to be delivered over the coming weeks to provide improvement in this area, while adding to the flexibility of its operations.
Simon Harper, director of operations for TNT, said:
“This equipment will be deployed across the network to equalise annual mileage and to meet the revised London Emission Zone regulations being introduced on 3rd January 2012.”
