DHL Express to improve main Northern American hub
This is the site of its Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport hub where over 2,000 DHL employees sort through mail and cargo loaded onto its 78 daily flights to domestic and international locations.
Now, the company is to invest $47million into expanding this Cincinnati facility by 193,000 square feet allowing it to take onboard 120 additional fulltime workers as well as 163 part-time staff.
These improvements follow the $22million spend on improving its airport terminal site during 2011 due to its close proximity to the city of Covington.
DHL received state incentives under the Kentucky Business Investment Program which gave them a reduced occupational license fee as well as income tax credits on new employees.
CEO for Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport, Candace McGraw, explained how cargo is experiencing high growth at this moment in time, in addition to its booming passenger business.
She said:
“DHL’s main North American hub processes 2.6 million pieces per month and sorts 92 percent of all U.S. delivery shipments. DHL’s latest $46 million expansion will position DHL’s hub for continued growth in package volume over the next 10 years.”
