DHL reveals challenges for the future of logistics
Entitled “Delivering Tomorrow: Logistics 2050”, this study was compiled by 42 specialists in the industry. Contributors included those from Greenpeace International, the World Economic Forum and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
Among the issues put forward by the leading international courier company included supply chains being affected by untamed economies, logistics efficiency within big cities, consumer lifestyle changes, threats to international trade and moving towards regional supply chains and processes.
The demand for logistics services is expected to increase within most of the scenarios unveiled by DHL, but providers will face certain unique challenges within each situation.
CEO of DHL, Frank Appel, said:
“In this complex economic, political and social climate, it has become practically impossible to make linear forecasts. In a world that is becoming harder and harder to predict, we have to expand our horizon and think about alternatives. We can devise robust strategies and set the right course only if we have gained an understanding of different perspectives.”
