On 20th June, World Refugee Day, Deutsche Post DHL Group announced that it currently employs 1,702 refugees from Eritrea, Iran, Iraq, Somalia and Syria.
In addition, the company said that 4,790 refugees had been given “an inside look at working life at the company”, through traineeships, internships and employment contracts, since the end of 2015.
Deutsche Post DHL Group also announced a new collaboration with Joblinge, an organisation set up to address youth unemployment, launching pilot programmes to bring disadvantaged young people into the labour market.

450 “Praktikum PLUS Direkteinstieg” positions will be offered later this year, which include a 12-week training induction period, an internship and an offer of employment with a fixed-term two-year contract. Language and integration courses will also be offered.
“Employment is an important prerequisite for successful integration,” said Thomas Ogilvie, Board Member for Personnel, Labor Director and Corporate Incubations. “Hence, as a global company, it goes without saying that we will provide opportunities within the scope of our resources.”
Ogilvie also notes the advantages for DHL: “We, as employers, also benefit from having a wider circle of applicants. This is of great advantage to us when we recruit new staff, as, particularly in some metropolitan areas, where the good economic environment provides for full employment, the search for personnel can become a challenge.”
