DPD is to introduce a brand new parcel distribution hub in Dinkelsbuhl, Germany. The new build will cost 11 million Euros to construct, with work having begun already and is expected to be opened by early 2015, with staff levels of more than 90 employees.

Project Manager Milad Zadeh has said: “Closeness to the customer is an important competitive factor for us. Our new distribution centre in Dinkelsbuhl will put us in the position to offer our customers in the region even better service. Because of its ideal positioning within the delivery area and its transport links Business Park Waldeck is the best possible location for us.”

Major of Dinkelsbuhl, Dr Christoph Hammer has expressed his enthusiasm regarding the opening of the new centre: “DPD’s investment confirms the importance of Business Park Waldeck for Dinkelsbuhl as a business location. We are delighted that new jobs will also be created in the region.” The employment for the new parcel sorting facility will see job opportunities for up to 30 depot staff and 65 delivery drivers.

The new depot will have an impressive area span of 23,100 square metres, with its main core ability being parcel sorting. It is expected the hub will see the sorting of up to 16,500 parcels per day when the operations begin. The new build is to meet with environmental considerations, such as the use of solar power for heating purposes and the reduction in CO2 emissions, as the new facility will ultimately cut the distance in which transportation travels between shippers and consignees.

Within Germany already, DPD has a workforce of 7,500, as well as a fleet of 7,000 delivery vehicles. As it currently stands, over 2.5 million parcels travel through the international DPD network daily.
