UPS has recently set up a new network of product storage facilities across the USA in the bid to make medical supplies more readily available to end users and improve time scales for deliveries.
The parcel delivery company has introduced 36 new Field Stocking Locations which are in compliance with healthcare regulations, meanings that medical device manufacturers and their products can reach more than 80% of US hospital’s in just four hours. The Field Stocking Locations feature temperature controlled environments in order to store the medical equipment.
UPS Vice President of Global Healthcare Strategy, John Menna, has commented: “Due to an increasingly complex regulatory environment and significant cost pressures, medical device manufactures are looking to the supply chain to lower costs through inventory reduction and enhanced visibility.” Menna also added: “Based on our experience in healthcare distribution and utilizing UPS’s industry-leading global FSL network, we have created a tailored inventory management and distribution solution to meet the unique needs of medical device manufacturers.”
