UPS has put forward its intentions of introducing two new facilities into Poland and will represent a $25million investment for the firm. The first facility is to be a new parcel sorting hub, situated in the town of Strykow. The investment for this particular hub will be the biggest of its kind for the parcel delivery giant in Poland, with construction beginning this month. The second facility is due to house a UPS Global Business Services (GBS) centre, due to be situated in the city of Lodz.

Country Manager for UPS Poland, Piotr Sitarek, has commented: “This year Poland celebrates 25 years of economic freedom. UPS is happy to continue contributing to the country’s economic development with these two investments. The central location of the new parcel sorting centre in Strykow will enable us to provide faster service to our customers and the new GBS center in Lodz will allow us to increase the efficiency of our administrative operations throughout Europe, while offering skilled jobs to the Polish community.”

The new facility in Strykow is due to operate as both a package sorting centre and a distribution hub for parcels of all sizes. With a size of 13,000 square metres, the new location will be installed with technology which will allow the processing of up to 15,000 packages per hour. With its close proximity to many nation business centres, the new UPS build in Strykow will offer excellent transport links to allow further refinement of the UPS network connections.

Its second facility, the GBS centre, will be a UPS division providing sharing access to international services, including information services, customer service and accounting. UPS opened its first GBS centre in Poland in Wroclaw, in 2006, which was able to see the employment of 600 people. With the addition of the GBS centre in Lodz, the parcel delivery will potentially be able to employ over 900 people at both sits combined.

President of UPS Global Business Services, Larry Darrow, has said: “UPS is proud to partner with Poland as we open a second Global Business Services facility here. We conducted a thorough and comprehensive search as we sought to expand our European presence and Lodz stood out as an ideal choice. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship and thank the Polish Ministry of Economy, Mayor Hannah Zdanowska and the many other Polish officials who worked very hard to make this new location a reality.”
