DPD in Germany has recently launched a new cross-border business-to-consumer shipping service which assists more than 30 e-commerce markets. The new service, known as DPD Direct, targets to take control and care of the intricate paperwork involved when online retailers sell to consumers in other countries.

The new service is currently operational, being provided in collaboration with UK-based cross-border shipping company wnDirect. Director of International Products and Services at DPD Germany, Ralf Bürk, has commented on the “tremendous growth potential” in cross-border e-commerce, however he also highlighted that “the obstacles are still great, especially for shipments to non-EU countries. It is our aim to support such shippers in opening up new markets for themselves.”

DPD Direct offers German e-retailers the opportunity to ship to major markets such as in the USA, China, India and Brazil, in addition to the smaller markets in Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Australia. The service requires the e-retailer to provide the package and the necessary electronic data, from which DPD take control of the rest, including issues such as customs clearance, any applicable charges and conformity with country specific regulations.

For the parcel delivery company, the new B2C service makes way for it to fulfil its ambition of doubling its overall market share by 15% by the year 2018. Bürk commented: “The new offer is an ideal supplement to our own expertise in domestic and European B2C shipping. At the same time it highlights the fact that for a long time now we have no longer simply been a transport operator – we are now an ideal partner for all companies aiming to access new target groups by offering outstanding shipping services.”
