FedEx Express is due to build a new facility at Copenhagen Airport. The parcel delivery company is due to expand its operations within this region by creating the new gateway with the hope it will be completed by the end of 2015.

The new facility will cover 8,000 square metres, serving as an entry point for outbound and inbound shipments for Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway. It is expected to serve 18 FedEx Express flights and 170 truck movements per week. It will provide freight and parcel sorting equipment, supported by technology capable of processing around 11,500 packages and parcels per day. FedEx will be basing around 120 employees at the new facility.

FedEx Express Vice President of Finance for Europe, Helena Jansson, has said: “Copenhagen is an ideal choice because of its strong freight transport infrastructure and the central location of its airport.” Jansson continued: “In the last three years, we have expanded our presence across Europe opening more than 100 new stations – of which 8 are in the Nordics. Our new Copenhagen gateway is a key part of our growth strategy and, like elsewhere in Europe where we’ve invested, customers in this region will benefit from earlier deliveries and later pick-up times.”

FedEx has reported growth in regards to its shipping data relating to shipments from the Nordic countries, with increases of more than 17% in the last year. The US parcel giant has said the new Nordic gateway will enable earlier deliveries of shipments to customers in Denmark and southern Sweden, as well as later pick-up times.
