Parcel delivery company DPD Poland is due to attain courier firm Siódemka S.A. following a deal approval from regulators. GeoPost, which currently owns DPD Germany, confirmed acquiring its rival would formulate a market-leading courier firm, with annual sales expected above 240million Euros, reinstating its position in the ever-growing Polish market.

Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection has given its approval to DPD Poland for its recent proposal, meaning the company was able to purchase 100% of Siódemka’s shares. It is anticipated the acquisition will be finalised this week, seeing Siódemka become a subsidiary of DPD Poland.

President of the DPD Poland Management Board, Rafal Nawloka, has said: “The antitrust authority’s decision enables to commence activities preparing both companies for legal and operating merger. We expect that the key phase of that process will take place in the year 2015. A detailed plan is under preparation.”

Having been in operation since 1991, DPD Poland currently employees 5,500 members of staff throughout a network of 50 sites. GeoPost has said the acquisition is expected to “strengthen DPD’ presence in the e-commerce field in Poland.”
