An Air Canada flight from Tel Aviv, Israel, to Toronto, Canada, was diverted in order to save the life of a pet dog travelling in the cargo hold. A heating unit had failed and the dog risked freezing to death over the Atlantic Ocean.

The flight was rerouted to Frankfurt, Germany, causing a delay of approximately 75 minutes. While the heating unit was not, according to the pilot, critical to the completion of the journey, most of the 200 passengers are said to have been sympathetic to the pilot’s decision.

As a result, Simba, a seven-year-old French bulldog, and his owner, German Kontorovich, both happily made it to their destination.
