DPD Germany has recently announced it is to expand its parcel shop network through its partnership with NKD, a popular German clothing retailer. The extension will see DPD add ParcelShops to 1,300 NKD branches across Germany. The parcel carrier now has 6,000 ParcelShop locations within Germany and 16,000 throughout the whole of Europe. DHL is to set plans to increase its presence in the e-commerce sector. The parcel company is to expand its MeinPaket.de and Allyouneed.com shopping portals so they are established in other European markets other than Germany. FedEx announced last week its plans to buy TNT Express for a staggering $4.8 billion. It has been said that the purchase will not only boost FedEx’s overall size, but also increase their presence in the ever changing and growing e-commerce sector. It has been announced this week that FedEx is to buy Dutch parcel carrier, TNT Express. The two companies recently issued a joint press release, saying that they were both to enter a merger protocol together which will see ordinary shares of TNT Express at an offer price of 8 Euros per share. TNT has recently launched a new air link between its hubs in Liege, Belgium and Tel Aviv, Israel. DPD Germany has recently announced that it will be converting the lighting of 33 of its depots to use energy efficient LED systems. The parcel delivery company has said the investment is to cost them 800,000 Euros, and will see its carbon dioxide emissions reduce by approximately 1,700 tonnes per year.
