Maersk Line has recently published its Sustainability Progress Update for the year 2013, showing a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 3.8 million tonnes complimenting the businesses 4.1% growth. DPD is to introduce a brand new parcel distribution hub in Dinkelsbuhl, Germany. The new build will cost 11 million Euros to construct, with work having begun already and is expected to be opened by early 2015, with staff levels of more than 90 employees. UPS has recently announced plans to enhance the facilities of three of its key North American hubs. The enhanced facilities will include its Mira Loma location in California, its Hebron location in Kentucky and also its Calgary location in Alberta, Canada. FedEx Express has recently opened two new facilities, one being in Mexico and the other in Japan. The new hub within Mexico is said to be the midpoint for FedEx and their domestic operations, while the new hub located in Japan will act as a merger for shipments travelling between the US and Asia. New York based company, Alfa Chemistry, has reportedly been given a potential $325,000 fine. This has come as a result of the company having sent two shipments of toxic, flammable cargo via air freight. Manston Airport, branded as Kent’s International Airport, has recently announced its closure. The closure comes as a result of the airport having not made a profit as of late; it is thought to be losing up to £10,000 per day. Royal Mail has recently announced they are cut up to 1,600 jobs within their company. The parcel delivery service has said that the majority of jobs lost will be those within operational and head office management positions.
