Cadbury chocolate bars have been removed from NHS buildings following a price hike by Cadbury owners Mondolez. NHS Supply Chain, which is part of DHL, rejected the price increase at a time when it has been tasked with drastically cutting costs.

“We previously informed you of a temporary supply issue with all products in the Cadbury range from Mondelez,” said a notice posted on the NHS Supply Chain website.

“Mondelez had requested a price increase, and as we are not prepared to accept price increases on behalf of our customers, the products are now being delisted with immediate effect.”

NHS Supply Chain serves more than 1000 NHS trusts and healthcare organisations in the UK, providing supply chain services and healthcare products. It is operated by DHL Supply Chain on behalf of the NHS Business Services Authority.

The organisation recently reduced its catalogue of products from 600,000 to 315,000 to improve efficiency. The NHS as a whole has been tasked with saving £22 billion by the end of the 2020/2021 financial year, £700 million of which would be in procurement.
