A parcel bomb exploded at a FedEx distribution centre in Schertz, Texas, just after midnight on Tuesday. One person was non-critically injured.

The parcel was sent from and addressed to Austin. It is believed to be connected to four explosions that have already taken place in the city and in San Antonio, which have so far killed two people and injured four.

Three of these bombs were parcels left on the front doorsteps of the victims’ houses, while the fourth was triggered by tripwire on a street—after the police had made a televised appeal to the serial bomber.

Police are considering the possibility that the motivation for the attacks is racist, as they seem to have targeted mainly African American and Hispanic people; but other motives are being investigated as some of the attacks would appear to be random.

"We can confirm that a single package exploded while in a FedEx Ground sortation facility early this morning," said FedEx.

"One team member is being treated for minor injuries. We are working closely with law enforcement in their investigation. We are not providing any additional specific information about this package at this time."
