DHL has launched a new e-commerce fulfilment platform and centres in the United Kingdom, Americas and South East Asia, as part of its plans to become a leading global provider of e-commerce logistics.

Its new IT platform allows retailers to access the DHL network and services, giving them what DHL describes as a cost-effective solution for fast fulfilment and deliveries.

“Without seamless and reliable logistics processes, the current e-commerce boom would be inconceivable,” said Jürgen Gerdes, CEO of the Post - eCommerce - Parcel division at DHL. “The physical storage of ordered goods, their picking and packaging, the global shipping and delivery to the end-user’s front door or desired address – we now offer this in even more markets and from one single source.

Couriers have to meet growing demands of e-commerce

“By further internationalizing our fulfillment portfolio we will be able to do even more to help online retailers tap into new regions and benefit from the global e-commerce boom.”

The newest fulfilment centre in the UK is in the English town of Radlett, near London. It occupies about 6,500 square metres and its location allows for same-day processing for the Greater London area.

DHL is also looking into the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland as locations for further e-commerce facilities.
