Transglobal Express pledges continued support of Malawi children’s charity 3rd World Hope

• Transglobal’s fifth year of support
• Almost 200 children directly supported and thousands of others helped so far
• New Primary School to be constructed in 2014

Transglobal Express is delighted to announce its continued support of 3rd World Hope – a charity working to improve the wellbeing, education and opportunities of Malawian children.

Major Achievments

3rd World Hope has been helping to build self-sufficient communities in rural Malawi since 2007. Following a successful fundraising and development project for an orphanage in Bandawe, Central Malawi, 3rd World Hope became a registered charity in 2009 and, in partnership with local communities, has since made some major achievements, including:

• Construction of two “Orphan Care Centres”, where over 190 children are cared for and provided with food, clothes and education.
• Establishment of small local businesses to sustain the care centres including a chicken farm, grocery store and mini-bus service.
• Provision of clean water and improved toilet facilities to three villages, reducing risk of cholera and related illnesses.

Transglobal's Support

Transglobal Express has been supporting 3rd World Hope since 2009, ensuring that shipments of vital materials such as books, blankets and clothes arrive safely at the orphanages and primary schools run and supported by the charity across the country. Transglobal provides this service free of charge, meaning that the charity is able to send as many educational materials and as much equipment as it can source, without being restricted by freight costs.

Founder Shaun Williams explained Transglobal’s involvement in 3rd World Hope’s continued success: “Transglobal Express has been supporting 3rd World Hope and our communities in Africa for over four years. With their support, we have provided 563 sets of clothes, 200 pairs of shoes and a huge amount of books, toys and sports equipment to disadvantaged children in Malawi,” he said. “Transglobal has been an invaluable part of our projects and we look forward to continuing this partnership and, with their support, helping thousands more children in the future”.

Transglobal’s Managing Director Lawson Archer explained his continued commitment to supporting the charity’s vital work: “Smaller, grassroots organisations such as 3rd World Hope, make such a difference on the ground, and I have seen the huge impact their activities have had in such a short space of time. Being a smaller charity, their fundraising capacity is limited since every penny possible goes directly towards supporting people in need. By contributing towards 3rd World Hope’s international shipping costs – a significant proportion of the budget of any international organisation - we’re reducing their overheads considerably, meaning they can divert more resources to those who really need it. I’m really pleased that Transglobal has the opportunity to play its part in helping sustainable development in some of the world’s poorest regions and I’m very happy to pledge our continued support of 3rd World Hope”.

Future Plans

3rd World Hope is building a new primary school for over 690 children in Malawi this year. Shaun was glad to announce that the school will have a fully stocked library: “Books and items for the school are being collected at present, ready to be shipped out by Transglobal Express in a few months’ time,” he said. And the charity is not stopping at Malawi! Long-term plans are to develop further partnerships and roll out their model across other African nations.
