Leading classification society company ClassNK have revealed that they have recently classed their first United Sates-flagged ship. The newly introduced vessel, named MT SLNC PAX, will ultimately be operating within the US-flag cargo preference service.

Owner of the new ship, Schuyler Line Navigation Company, LLC (SLNC), have expressed their excitement with regards to their new addition. President of SLNC, Russell Paret, has voiced the enthusiasm on behalf of the company, saying “We are very pleased to be working with ClassNK as they have been knowledgeable and diligent in issuing class certificates for the MT SLNC PAX in the US registry.”

ClassNK was approved authorisation for the first time in 2011 for them to carry out a statutory survey for US-flagged ships from the United States Coast Guard. This authorisation was then extended further in December 2012 meaning that the company could provide a fuller range of services, primarily for certification and evaluation for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) conventions. Further to this, they have also been enabled to implement International Safety Management (ISM) Audits on behalf of the US flag administration. The establishment of the company’s first US-flagged ship will increase the ClassNK’s overall recognition in the industry, particularly the US market.
