It has recently been reported Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has relocated its fleet of tug boats, which are operated by Marine Services to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) classification society.

Having been established in 2012, TASNEEF, the first classification society within the UAE, is accountable for the issuing of certificates which are required for the international movement of ships. The certificates TASNEEF are responsible ensure the safety of a vessel, additionally to the ship’s protection against the environment in agreement with SOLAS (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea) and MARPOL (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships).

New contracts will provide the classification society with authority to monitor vessels, confirming they are adhering to the appropriate and relevant international accredited technical standard protocols. TASNEEF are also responsible for carrying out consistent surveys of the ships to confirm a continuous compliance.

CEO of TASNEEF, Eng. Rashed Al Hebsi, has commented: “We are very proud of the valuable trust that was given to ADPC by classifying its fleet by the National body. This will contribute to the refinement of national experiences and will open that gate for international cooperation. We wish for other national companies to follow the same step as ADPC, by registering and classifying their ships in the UAE. Doing that will enhance the capability of the UAE fleets.”

ADPC plan to increase its tug boat fleet in the near future, with the intention of using TASNEEF when registering any additional vessels.
