DHL transports aircraft components from Hamburg to US for Airbus

DHL Global Forwarding has recently begun shipping the first components from the Airbus plant located in Hamburg Finkenweder, to the newly built plant in Mobile, Alabama, USA.

DHL Industrial Projects has developed a multimodal transport concept for Airbus which will see its larger components of the A320 group in addition to 1,000 sea freight containers which are due to cross the Atlantic.

Nikola Hagleitner, CEO of Industrial Projects for DHL Global Forwarding has said: “Transport management for highly sensitive heavy goods calls for highly specialised expertise in project logistics as well as a strong grasp of technical and security issues. Together with Airbus our Industrial Projects team designed a sophisticated multimodal transport concept.”

During the project, DHL are expected to transport an impressive total of 80,000 tons in freight volume.
