On September 13th, DHL Global Forwarding celebrated 15 years of chocolate delivery, as part of International Chocolate Day. The celebration, created by the National Confectioners Association, falls on the birthday of Milton S. Hershey, inventor of the Hershey chocolate bar.
Over the years, DHL has transported both chocolate and related ingredients such as raw cocoa using its temperature-controlled delivery services. DHL says it ships more than 4,450 20-foot-equivalent units (TEUs) every year—that’s equivalent to 600 trucks full of chocolate. Every month, an average of 460 customs forms are filled out for this purpose.
The market for chocolate is growing in the Americas especially, expected to increase by almost a third over the next five years. Ecuador is currently Latin America’s top cocoa producer.
