It may surprise you to know that DHL Global Forwarding is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year.
Originally called Danzas, the company was founded in 1815 in Basel, Switzerland, as a horse and wagon service, and later railway and steamship, which enabled its expansion into international delivery.
Deutsche Post World Net acquired Danzas in 2000 and DHL International in 2002, when it integrated Danzas, DHL and EuroExpress under the singular DHL brand. Danzas became DHL Danzas Air & Ocean.
Then, in 2005, it lost the Danzas brand entirely and became DHL Global Forwarding, with some parts contributing to DHL Freight.
The company has marked the occasion with a 100-page retrospective, "20 years of logistics: Danzas and DHL shapes an industry", which is available in book stores.
