According to the annual reader survey by Air Cargo News, readers believe that the current state of the global economy is the single biggest challenge faced by the air freight industry.

The survey was completed by a range of professionals from the air freight industry, including freight forwarders, airports, handlers and carriers. It covered a range of topics to provide a broad overview of perspectives on the current state of the industry.

32.6% of respondents cited the global economy as a challenge—overcapacity and yield followed at 21.4% and 18.5% respectively.

Pharmaceuticals is viewed as the segment that offers the greatest growth potential with a score of 23.3%, followed by consumer goods at 17.3%.

Asia is viewed as the region with the greatest growth potential, with a score of 30.7%, though this is a few percent down from last year’s survey—most likely due to the slowdown of the Chinese economy.
