Amazon may be looking to acquire the Frankfurt-Hahn airport, as the latest development in its air freight endeavours.

The German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung has reported discussions between Amazon and the airport, which is located near a large Amazon fulfilment centre. The paper claims that Amazon is currently deciding between three bidders.

This follows the news of Amazon’s deal with the Air Transport Services Group (ATSG) to lease 20 Boeing 767 freighter aircraft in the US. This is intended to support one and two-day delivery, according to Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide operations and customer service David Clark.

Should a German deal go ahead, it suggests that Amazon is moving to expand its air cargo network in Europe as well as in the US.
