A FedEx driver in California successfully brought a jackknifed 18-wheeler truck down a steep, icy mountain pass on Interstate 80, near the Nevada border.

According to an account posted by California Highway Patrol in Truckee on Facebook, “When the driver had lost it at the top of the hill, he had broke the air lines to his rear trailer. This caused the breaks on the rear trailer to lock up.”

Highway Patrol asked the driver if he could “get himself going” while they blocked traffic and gave him the space to slide the vehicle down to the next open shoulder on the Interstate, where he could wait to be towed.

The driver expertly manoeuvred the truck down the incline and arrived on the open shoulder twenty minutes later. A voice in the video can be heard saying over the radio, “I cannot believe that worked.”

The original video of the impressive feat, recorded and posted on Facebook by California Highway Patrol, has to date received over 34 million views.
