DHL Express commits to fuel-saving fleet

All of the delivery vans that will be purchased by the international courier through its agreement with Hitachi Capital Commercial Vehicle Services will be fitted with telematics systems technology which is designed to offer better fuel economy.

In addition to the above benefits, driver behaviour will also be improved by the monitoring system and therefore so will the efficiency of their operations.

This deal serves to extend the 10-year relationship with the contract hire company in providing DHL Express UK with its delivery vehicles. The telematics-technology-fitted fleet should be ready for action at some point during this month.

DHL Express UK and Ireland director of fleet, Richard Crook, said:

"A key factor for DHL Express was the inclusion of telematics, which we see as a key enabler to achieving our long-term goal of reducing carbon emissions by 20% by 2020."

"Our fleet travels over 30m miles a year, so safety is also a top priority for our employees. Through the use of telematics, we can not only improve our carbon efficiency but also encourage safer driving behaviours."
