DHL responds to Amazon-Atlas deal, says it will have no impact on operations

In the wake of the news that Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings (AAWW) has leased Amazon 20 cargo aircraft, DHL has responded that the company has no problem with the deal.

Deutsche Post DHL Group chief executive Frank Appel was asked about the deal during a conference call, as Atlas Air is one of DHL’s aircraft lessors. However, Appel does not expect that the deal with Amazon will have an impact on their operations.

In addition to the lease of 20 Boeing 767 freighters on a crew, maintenance and insurance (CMI) basis, the deal also includes dry leasing by AAWW’s Titan Aviation leasing unit.

DHL has announced that it increased its earnings year on year by 21.3% for the first quarter of 2016, reaching a total of €873 (before tax and interest). However, air freight volumes declined.
