DHL has recently expanded its “green” fleet of vehicles, introducing electric vehicles in Japan and LNG-powered trucks in Belgium. This comes as part of the company’s GoGreen environmental initiative, with over 11,500 energy efficient vehicles having been deployed around the world. DHL has set to improve upon its carbon efficiency by 30% by 2020. The company has currently reached an improvement of 18%.

In Japan, the parcel delivery company has introduced a fleet of electric vehicles to service within Tokyo which is home to financial institutes and trading companies. Taketo Yamakawa, DHL Express Japan President and Representative Director, has said: “Protecting our environment and meeting the challenge of global warming with measures such as controlling emission of carbon dioxide is a critical mission of the entire logistics industry.” Yamakawa also added: “As the global leader of the industry, we will continue to strive to provide measures to cope with climate change issues including the use of environmentally-friendly vehicles.”

Belgium has seen DHL introduce two teardrop trailers and an LNG-powered truck to its fleet in the bid to cut fuel consumption. The teardrop trailers are expected to reduce air resistance, in addition to cutting the consumption of fuel by up to 10% according to DHL Vice President of Road Network Europe for DHL Express, Patrick Boone, has said: “Green transport solutions are a vital part in modern logistics operations. We have been working with our partners and customers to create tailor made answers to their transport needs.” He continued: “The teardrop trailer and the LNG-truck perfectly represent this approach and will help to reduce the environmental impact of the operations.”
