DPD begins operations from new parcel distribution depot in Dinkelsbühl

The beginning of the year saw parcel delivery company DPD started to operate at its new parcel distribution hub in Dinkelsbühl in Bavaria, Germany. The new building is the company’s 76th location in Germany, with a total of 11 million Euros having been spent on the Waldeck Business Park.

The new site covers an impressive 23,100 square metre of space – the equivalent of four football fields. DPD’s new site centres around a sorting hall installed with up-to-date technologies and equipment, meaning up to 5,500 parcels an hour can be processed automatically.

Milar Zadeh, manager of the new Dinkelsbühl depot, has said: “Over recent months our committed team has prepared the start of our new depot with the greatest attention to detail.” Zadeh continued: “We now look forward to our daily work on behalf of shippers and consignees in the region around Dinkelsbühl, where we already feel very much at home. After a number of successful test runs thousands of parcels were for the first time sorted in real operations on 5th January. The first members of the deport team had moved into their offices as early as the Autumn of 2014 to ensure that the start of operations would go smoothly.”

Having begun construction in March of last year, the depot will now serve areas from the north of Rothenburg ob de Tauber to the south of Aalen. DPD has also taken environmental factors into consideration when planning the new build. Features of the new building include solar powered heating, as well as reductions in CO2 emissions as a result of the location of the depot shortening distances between shippers and consignees.
