Delta first US passenger airline to offer door-to-door courier service

Delta Air Lines has become the first US passenger airline to offer door-to-door parcel delivery after teaming up with parcel company Roadie.

The DASH Door-to-Door service will offer same-day delivery for time-sensitive goods, such as medical supplies and automotive parts, from Delta’s hub in Atlanta to more than 55 cities across the US.

Roadie is an on-demand delivery company that launched in 2015 on a gig economy model, hiring drivers to make deliveries using their own personal vehicles. It now has over 150,000 drivers worldwide and makes commercial deliveries for companies including Home Depot and Walmart.

According to Delta and Roadie, the partnership is designed to remove the need for the sender or recipient to travel to and from the airport—although door-to-door parcel delivery of this kind is already offered by a number of established courier companies.

The DASH service is currently suitable for parcels weighing less than 100 pounds and measuring no more than 90 inches in length.
