From 2nd July 2023, postcodes will become a mandatory requirement for all DHL Express / Economy Select and TG Express / Economy Select services to and from the Republic of Ireland.

The national postcode system used in Ireland is called Eircode. Unlike postcodes in other countries, which identify a cluster of addresses, an Eircode is assigned to every unique residential and business address in Ireland.

Each Eircode consists of 7 alphanumeric characters. You can look them up for your address using Eircode.ie.

The system itself has been around for a few years and is not changing, but DHL is now introducing it as a requirement for all Republic of Ireland shipments in its network.

Shipments without Eircodes from the above date may face potential delays.

For all other carriers, Eircodes remain optional for now, but it's advisable to use them wherever possible, as they can make it easier for drivers to locate specific addresses.
