Amazon Air has leased another 10 Boeing 767-300 freighters from ATSG, bringing the total number of aircraft to 50.
The move had been anticipated in the industry as Amazon has the capacity for a hundred aircraft at its new hub in Cincinnati.
“We’re pleased to expand and extend our partnership in support of Amazon’s exceptional ability to provide reliable and fast delivery to its customers,” said ATSG president and CEO Joe Hete.
“As the world’s leading source of customer-dedicated 767 cargo aircraft, we have the access to aircraft and are uniquely qualified to support Amazon for many years to come.”
Amazon revealed its first ever freighter, Amazon One, in 2016, one of 40 it leased from ATSG and Atlas Air—initially to support its fulfilment for one-day and two-day Prime services.
The company also began offering air freight services and expanding its own parcel delivery services for third-party merchants.
