Egypt Post, the country’s postal agency, has finished developing a new postcode system across the country with a 7-digit postcode for each group of buildings.

The new system is intended to improve the efficiency of mail deliveries by making locations more precise and easier to find.

It is beneficial not only for businesses, but for emergency services too.

According to Essam El-Sagheer, former chairperson of the Egyptian National Post Organization (ENPO), the project took two years to develop, using information from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Global logistics company DHL will also have access to the new system, which will improve address look-up for its customers and drivers. Additional parties will be given access in the future.

The new postcode system brings Egypt in line with many other countries that already have such a system in place.

Existing postcodes in Egypt are just five digits long.
