DHL eCommerce Solutions, the US arm of Deutsche Post DHL Group, is to invest $300 million in its US facilities over the next five years.

Improvements will include facility expansions, adding more than 70% to the company’s square footage, as well as the automation of distribution centres and upgrades of IT systems.

The company is also adding dedicated export gateways for international shipments to Carteret in New Jersey, Franklin Park in Illinois, and Whittier in California.

The Whittier centre opened in 2020 and expanded in August 2021 by 100,000 sq ft. It serves as DHL eCommerce’s West Coast gateway.

The 69,000 sq ft Franklin Park gateway for the Midwest opened in July, while the 50,000 sq ft Carteret gateway for the Northeast is due to open this month.

All three facilities are for international shipments and the company will continue to process domestic parcels at other facilities.

DHL eCommerce currently has 19 distribution centres across the US.

With more efficient automation and greater network coverage, the company hopes for quicker deliveries and the capacity to meet future demands for e-commerce.
