The new "eco-regional" sorting facility for parcel delivery business DPD is now open.
Situated in London's Bromley-By-Bow, the facility will enable DPD to deliver up to 80,000 'green' parcels per day.
Mark Harper, the Secretary of State for Transport, has praised the new centre for its contribution to raising awareness and generating momentum for the green economic growth that the UK needs.
When the facility is fully functioning, 650 additional jobs will be created in this calendar year. It also means DPD will only use electric and entirely green delivery vehicles in the London North and South Circular areas.
500 electric vehicles and HGVs powered by HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) will make up the sizable fleet of final-mile delivery trucks that are diesel-free.
