  • FedEx Express opens new offices in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland and launches its own international air freight service
  • 52 new job opportunities created

Last week, FedEx Express opened its new 20,000 sq ft operations centre in Kilroot Business Park in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland. The million-pound investment is partially aimed at improving businesses’ access to global markets by offering them domestic ground services as well as air freight solutions. The subsidiary of FedEx Corp is planning on creating 52 new job opportunities. Moreover, up to three times this number may benefit other related industries.

FedEx sets foot in Northern Ireland

MLA and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Arlene Foster, reiterated the benefits for Northern Irish businesses which would spring from these new premises:

“This investment by FedEx Express, will not only results in new jobs at a purpose-built facility (…), but it will also provide support for existing businesses across Northern Ireland by reducing the delivery time between here and customers overseas.”

In fact, an air freight service will operate on a daily basis from Belfast International airport which is set to serve international locations such as North America and Asia. According to FedEx, the “economic prosperity” of Northern Ireland would not only need to be focussed on establishing trade flows with the UK and Ireland, but business relations with global markets ought to be strengthened.

Gerald P. Leary emphasised the need for a “(…) fast and reliable access to [global import and export markets]. (…) [This] new FedEx operation and flight will make a significant difference to exporting firms in this regard.”

The President of FedEx Express Europe, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa also stressed that FedEx’ “service also enhances the appeal of Northern Ireland for multi-national Foreign Direct Investment, with many areas benefiting from our commitment to deliver by noon.”

**Transglobal Express’ customers can benefit from FedEx Worldwide air freight services which are particularly competitive for parcel delivery in the Far East, South America and USA.
