According to DHL, the service is part of the DPDHL global environment protection programme which was launched three years ago. The eco-friendly shipping service offers Indian customers an opportunity to have their carbon footprint neutralised. In order to do so, they will have to pay an additional charge on top of their shipping rates. The charge will depend on the weight and distance of the parcels.
Beyond that, the Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) is going to invest the charges and will issue each customers with an inpidual certificate stating the total amount of offset CO2 emissions on an annual basis.
“as a socially responsible organisation, [they would] firmly believe in striking the right balance between economic benefits and environmental responsibility. (…) Trough this roll-out in India, [DHL] would enable customers to be responsible social citizens.”
Blue Dart, owned by the logistics provider DHL, are known as one of the leading courier services and providers of innovative logistics solutions in India.
“The GOGREEN Carbon Neutral Service will not only enable our customers to contribute to a greener future but will also help fund the climate protection projects and build healthier and productive communities”,
says Anil Khanna, Managing Director, Blue Dart Express Ltd.
Besides that, DHL Express India demonstrated an improvement of 6 percent in its carbon efficiency in the Carbon Footprint Assessment register, which is published annually by DHL.
