Importing Documents to India
If you’d like to import documents into India, then our UPS Envelope service offers excellent transit times and the most economical prices. Document delivery is typically faster than parcel delivery in any case (since documents are not subject to customs clearance, which can sometimes cause delays in transit) but this service from UPS is especially speedy and you can expect your documents to be collected from the UK and delivered to India as little as two days later. It’s perfect for urgent correspondence, and also suitable for a variety document types including brochures, certificates and contracts.
To qualify for this service, your documents must be placed into a branded UPS Envelope before they are collected. We are able to send these to your UK collection point at your request.
Transit Times from the UK to India
As is the case with any courier service, the time it will take your parcel or document to be delivered to India from the UK is dependent on a number of factors: the carrier you choose, the service you select (is it an express or an economy service?), and, most important, the location of your collection and delivery address. If you know your address details, please enter them into our carrier specific transit times calculator tools to work out how long your parcel will take to be delivered.
As a general guide, a delivery from the UK to a commercial centre such as Mumbai typically takes two to three days to be delivered on a UPS Express Saver service, and approximately four days with UPS Expedited service. Deliveries to more rural areas may take slightly longer.
Customs Information for India
All imports to India from the UK are subject to Customs Clearance. We therefore strongly advise all shippers to check the relevant customs restrictions to ensure that their items can be sent in advance and to make sure your delivery runs as smoothly as possible. You may find the following information useful:
- Licences may be required when importing certain items into India from the UK. This may include, but is not restricted to: certain books, computer software, jewellery, leather goods, passports, radios, shoes and textile articles.
- If you are sending mobile phones to India, they must have an IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identification) Number clearly indicated on them. The IMEI must also be displayed on the commercial invoice.
Please note that these points are by no means exhaustive – it’s always best to check with the appropriate customs authority in advance.
