DHL Express has joined the trial of a new parcel locker network in Denmark, created by national postal operator PostNord and software company SwipBox.

Nærboks, literally “nearby box”, functions much like other locker services already used by DHL elsewhere, or by companies like Amazon, allowing customers to pick their parcels up from lockers near to their location rather than having them delivered to a residential or business address.

However, the Nærboks lockers will be used by several different logistics operators, including DHL, so that customers can go to the same places for pick-ups no matter who they use.

The trial began in March in the city of Kolding, with plans to roll it out across the country after six months.

“We see a strong advantage in having a far larger network of parcel lockers placed close to the consumers in Denmark,” said Steen Asger Jorgensen, Operations Director at DHL Express Denmark.

“DHL is already operating with parcel lockers all over the world and when looking at the customer satisfaction, it is clear to see that customers are highly satisfied with having the ability to decide the time and place of their parcel pickup.”
