DPD UK has announced its best ever Cyber Weekend, with year-on-year parcel volume growth of 13%.
All four of its sorting hubs reported record volumes every night in the week running up to Black Friday.
The company said it also had a record number of delivery vans on the road for the four-day event, due to an influx of permanent new recruits.
“It’s been an incredible weekend,” said CEO Dwain McDonald. “The whole team has been absolutely amazing. We have maintained our very high service standard, despite record volumes and that is something everyone should be proud of.
“We start planning for Peak [season] in January and we look at every single aspect of the whole process, but when it all comes together it is still a great achievement for everyone involved.”
McDonald said the company has had to work hard to adapt to Black Friday and Cyber Weekend in recent years, much like the other international parcel delivery companies including UPS, FedEx and DHL.
UPS earlier said it was expecting at least 1 million returns a day this month.
